No lazing
on this Sunday afternoon, twenty six archers lined up to shoot a Portsmouth Round for the 2023 indoor club championship. The venue might have been cold, but the competition was hot.
There were plenty of trophies on offer both for raw scores and handicap adjusted scores.
It was great to see the Compound category for Junior Male revived after being absent from the trophy table since 2012 (actually it was still absent as our Tournament Officer had forgotten it was still in the clubhouse loft). Also fantastic to see a new name raising the bar and topping the Ladies Recurve category. The senior recurve handicap trophy was won by an archer shooting a brand new bow for the first time. I think it's fair to say it was a good buy. No spoilers you can click on the results below.
Two "lads and dads" teams went head to head for the Parent and Child Trophy and two couples for the Partners Trophy. Thirteen pairs competed for the mixed pair handicap. A prize pot of £46 for best gold was split across three categories; so the beers are on Chris Baigent (recurve) and Mick Hayman (longbow), the lemonades are on Max (compound).
All trophy and medal winners received their awards from our Lady Paramount, Hannah Diffey. The final prize of the day was the Lady Paramount Prize which was awarded to our tournament organiser and gratefully received with much blushing.
