On Sunday 7th July Sway Bowmen held their annual White Rose Tournament. This tournament for many years was held in the grounds of the White Rose Hotel in Sway village on the Sunday of the Sway Village Carnival week. As it was shot in the gardens it was necessarily a short distance round, so a Portsmouth round of 5 dozen arrows at 20 yards on to a 60cm target face was used. When the White Rose changed hands some years ago now the shoot was moved to our archery field just outside the village.
This year 33 archers took part in good weather conditions. Medals were awarded to the top scorers in each category and the White Rose Trophy itself is contested by mixed pairs drawn on the day and posting the highest combined score. Our thanks go to our Judge of the day Karen Fountaine and to our our hardworking tournament organiser Jem Mason.

Sunday 5th May saw Sway Bowmen start their outdoor competition season with their Line Cutter Shoot. Traditionally held on the first Sunday of May each year. 21 archers took part this year shooting a Metric IV round of three dozen arrows at 40 mtrs followed by 3 dozen at 30 mtrs. Outright scores are not counted for this trophy, it is purely the highest number of arrows cutting the various lines separating the coloured bands of the target face that count.
The winner this year was Alan Barratt shooting a recurve bow with 17 `Line Cutters`. During this Metric IV round three new Club records were broken by Heather Tarbard ladies compound bow, Bob Hughes gents bare bow, and Bertie Mason junior gents recurve bow. Well done to the Line Cutter Trophy winner Alan Barratt and the three new Club record Holders.
